Under the leadership of DTLS Studio and Washington University St. Louis, a proposed bike corridor was studies along the North section of Skinker Blvd. This section of Skinker touches several main points of interest including Washington University main campus, Forest Park and ending just north of the Delmar Loop commercial district.
Several site visits were conducted to identify and analyze the health of the current street trees along both sides of this section of street. Special analysis was taken of the Ash trees specifically because of concerns with the emerald ash borer beetle that was spreading throughout the St. Louis region.
Additionally, the proposed bike corridor would connect Washington University campus to Forest Park and also provide students with a safe path along Skinker Blvd. Diagrams were then developed depicting what is existing and the sections show the proposed implementation of a bike corridor through a series of designed phases.
